PAOK complete comeback win in Basketball Champions League; AEK and Peristeri both lose

PAOK completed a dramatic comeback to beat Neptunas Klaipeda on the road in the Basketball Champions League, while both AEK and Peristeri conceded disappointing defeats.

NEPTUNAS KLAIPEDA 80-86 PAOK (GROUP D)

PAOK, buoyed by the signing of Bobby Brown and a cash injection, hauled themselves back into playoff contention in the Basketball Champions League as they claimed a thrilling 86-80 victory against Neptunas Klaipeda in Lithuania

Klaipeda, displaying grit and determination, fought back to lead by 11 points with a little less than six minutes remaining. However, PAOK weren’t having any of it, and the Dikefalos tou Vorra snatched a six-point win with a late surge. Brown provided the dagger as he nailed a three-pointer with 18 seconds remaining.

PAOK now have four wins in 10 Group D matches.

Next week, PAOK will host Dijon in Thessaloniki, while Klaipeda travel to Zaragoza.

ROYAL GIANTS ANTWERP 73-61 AEK (GROUP B)

On Wednesday, it provided to be a disappointing evening for AEK in Belgium, as the Kitrinomavri conceded a surprise 73-61 defeat to Royal Giants Antwerp on the road.

Nevertheless, despite the loss, AEK do continue to lead Group B with a 7-3 record. Hapoel Jerusalem are in joint first position.

AEK immediately got off to a poor start by conceded 26 points in the first quarter. In the second, AEK did reduce the deficit to four points, but Antwerp controlled the match during the concluding two periods to earn their third win of the regular season.

Keith Langford led AEK in scoring with 19 points.

AEK will face Bandirma in Athens next week, while Antwerp travel to Vechta.

PERISTERI 54-80 TENERIFE (GROUP C)

Having won their previous three Basketball Champions League games in a row, Peristeri were given a cold shower on Wednesday, as Tenerife cruised to a comfortable 80-54 victory in the Athenian suburb.

Tenerife, who have former Olympiacos and Promitheas player Giorgos Bogris on their books, hold an impressive 9-1 record in Group C. Bogris, scored seven points in Peristeri.

Peristeri did not score above 17 points in any of the four quarters.

On matchday 11, Peristeri will hope to get back to winning ways against Nizhny Novgorod in Russia. Tenerife will host Nymburk.

PROMITHEAS LOSE IN EUROCUP

Elsewhere, Promitheas conceded defeat in their first match of the second round of the EuroCup campaign, as they were beaten 63-57 by Brescia in Italy.

Recent signing Vangelis Mantzaris tallied 12 points, six assists and five rebounds in the game.

Promitheas will next play against Oldenburg at home in Group F.
