Until Wednesday, it appeared that PAOK’s winter transfer campaign was over, however it then became known that the Thessaloniki organisation were close to signing both Sergio Oliveira and Icelandic defender Sverrir Ingi Ingason. On Thursday evening, PAOK officially revealed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Oliveira with this announcement on their website:

“PAOK FC can reveal that midfielder Sergio Oliveira has joined on loan from Porto for six months with a purchase option. The Portuguese player will wear the number 26.”

As stated in PAOK’s press-release, they will have the option to purchase him on a permanent basis in the summer, however the clause is reportedly set at 12 million euros.

In the 2018/2019 campaign, Oliveira has made 17 appearances for Porto across all competitions, contributing with two goals and two assists. Nevertheless, he has rarely been included in the starting line-up, and he will be hoping to receive more playing time with PAOK.

The midfielder has been on the books of Porto since his professional career began, however he has been sent on loans to Beira Mar, Mechelen, Penafiel, Pacos Ferreira and Nantes. Oliveira made his debut for the senior Portuguese national team in September 2018 and boasts three caps.

INGASON ALSO JOINS PAOK

During Thursday evening, commanding Icelandic centre-back Ingason was also pictured arriving in Thessaloniki, and he signed a 3.5 year contract with PAOK at around 23:00 local time.

According to reports in the media, PAOK paid FC Rostov of the Russian Premier League four million euros in order to acquire Ingason, while including a release clause of 20 million in the 25-year-old’s contract.

Unlike the situation concerning Oliveira, the club didn’t make an official statement on Thursday, however Giorgos Savvidis published a photograph on Instagram of Ingason signing his PAOK contract while the club made this Twitter post:

“Is Transfer Deadline Day Over? And what time do you usually wake up on Friday?”

This season, Ingason has played in 17 matches for Rostov in the Russian Premier League, contributing with two goals. In the past, the centre-back has represented Brediablik, Viking FK, KSC Lokeren and Granada, later joining Rostov in June 2017 where he subsequently impressed. Ingason participated at the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Iceland and his value is rated at 4.5 million euros.
