In April, the Appeals Committee of the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) decided to reject PAOK’s appeal against their seven-point deduction, with the reigning Greek champions having been found guilty of participating in a multi-ownership case with Xanthi. Olympiacos’ request for PAOK to be relegated from the Super League was also declined by the EPO.

Nevertheless, in a bid to completely clear their name, PAOK subsequently decided to submit an appeal to the CAS in Switzerland. Earlier this week, the Dikefalos tou Vorra officially filed their protest to the organisation, with their case set to be heard in June. The result of the investigation will be revealed a month later.

Olympiacos have also submitted an appeal to the CAS in an attempt to see PAOK demoted to the second tier of Greek football.

However, in bad news for Olympiacos, the Erythrolefki were recommended for relegation by the Ethics Committee of the EPO for match fixing during the 2014/2015 season. According to reports from FORZA, PAOK will now report the issue to UEFA and the European Clubs Association (ECA), as the Thessaloniki-based organisation hope to see Olympiacos be punished by the two organisations in question.

PAOK were temporarily thrown out by the ECA in 2018 when Ivan Savvidis invaded the pitch against AEK with a gun attached to his waist. UEFA could also ban Olympiacos from its competitions if there is substantial evidence that the Piraeus club fixed games.

In the 2019/2020 Super League regular season, Olympiacos established a huge 14-point advantage in first place by remaining undefeated in 26 games, while PAOK are only one point ahead of AEK in second position. The top two teams will qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
