PROMITHEAS 64-60 PERISTERI

Before this week began, Peristeri were unbeaten across all competitions, but they followed up Tuesday’s Basketball Champions League loss at Tenerife with a defeat against Promitheas in Patras.

Both teams largely cancelled each other out with solid defensive play. In the first half, the two sides stayed level at 38-38, before Peristeri took a slender one-point lead after winning a tight third period 9-8.

However, Promitheas won the decisive fourth quarter 18-13, in turn earning an important win. Gerald Robinson was the leading scorer with 16 points to his name.

AEK 91-61 PANIONIOS

AEK are finding their feet again under the leadership of Ilias Papatheodorou. Having defeated Antwerp in the Basketball Champions League on Wednesday, AEK finally got back to winning ways in the Basket League, easily beating Panionios 91-61. Panionios had won their last two successive league games against Rethymno and Iraklis.

The Kitrinomavri immediately put themselves in the box seat by winning the first quarter 24-11. In the second period, AEK extended their advantage by nine points before comfortably seeing out the remaining 20 minutes to ease to a 91-61 triumph at the OAKA Indoor Hall.

Charalampos Giannopoulos enjoyed a great night with 17 points, five rebounds and one assist. Howard Sant-Roos (11 points) and Stefan Jankovic (10 points) also reached double figures.

PAOK 94-74 IFAISTOS LIMNOU

The Dikefalos tou Vorra have finally tasted victory again after a streak of six losses in a row across all competitions.

Competing against an in-form Ifaistos Limnou team, PAOK showed the potential which they do possess, easing to a 20-point victory in Thessaloniki. PAOK won all four periods except the fourth.

Lewis JeQuan, 25, took a leading role for PAOK with 25 points and four assists. Mario Little caught the eye for the visitors with 21 points and four rebounds to his name.

ARIS 85-87 KOLOSSOS RODOU

That’s what you call a thriller. In a hotly contested encounter, Aris and Kolossos played two overtimes in Thessaloniki, before the away team from Rhodes eventually saw out a 87-85 victory which condemned the home club to a fifth consecutive Basket League loss.

Regulation time had ended level at 71-71.

Lithuanian point guard Martinas Gecevicius, who played 46 minutes in the match for Aris, registered 19 points, four rebounds and three assists. Tyrone Brazelton and Lasannah Kromah tallied 18 points each for Kolossos. The Rhodes-based organisation had beaten fellow Thessaloniki club PAOK last week.

IONIKOS NIKAIA 88-74 IRAKLIS

Ionikos are on a roll. In defeating Iraklis 88-74 in Palaio Faliro, the Nikaia club gained their fourth Basket League victory in a row, however they will do well to extend that streak next week as they make the daunting trip to the OAKA for a game against reigning champions Panathinaikos.

Interestingly, Ionikos did lose the fourth quarter by 11 points as they only scored eight, but the match was already done and dusted as a contest.

Steve Burtt and Vasilis Charalampopoulos scored 14 points for the winners. Olivier Hanlan picked up 20 for Iraklis.

LAVRIO 86-78 RETHYMNO CRETAN KINGS

On matchday five, Lavrio were well beaten by Peristeri while Rethymno beat AEK, but the former proved to be the stronger team today by emerging victorious by a score of 86-78.

Initially, Rethymno did win the first quarter by five points, but Lavrio won the second 29-19 as they turned the game around. Lavrio sneaked a three-point victory in the fourth frame to clinch the win.

Quenton Decosey scored 20 for the victors.
