Platanias move into second place of Football League

Platanias moved up into second place of the 2018/2019 Football League, as their 2:0 victory over AOK Kerkyra at home was enough to leapfrog Apollon Larissa after the latter could only draw 2:2 against Ergotelis.

Coming into this game, Platanias were on a run of two emphatic consecutive wins against Sparti (7:0) and Irodotos (4:0), and they extended their excellent form with a 2:0 triumph over Kerkyra at the Perivolia Municipal Stadium.
Platanias struck within nine minutes of play. Lurking on the edge of the penalty area, Nili received the ball, and he unleashed a fierce effort which was too hot for the Kerkyra goalkeeper to handle. The hosts continued playing on the front foot with Brazilian forward Miguel Bianconi missing a couple of promising opportunities.
Kerkyra’s best chance arrived in the 82nd minute. Rising highest to meet a corner from the left flank, Thuram headed the ball with power, but his effort was clumsily palmed to safety by the Platanias goalkeeper.
That miss proved crucial. Just four minutes later, Stelios Pozatzidis put the game to bed with a low finish when clean through, in turn securing Platanias’ 2:0 triumph.

As a result of Platanias’ victory, Apollon Larissa needed to beat Ergotelis in order to stay in second position of the standings, but they could only register a 2:2 draw at home.
In an even contest, Ergotelis struck first in the 10th minute with Giorgos Manousakis hitting the target, but Apollon Larissa got back on level terms in the closing stages of the opening half as Brazilian forward Lukas Brambilla scored.
Ilias Tselios, on loan from AEK FC, gave Ergotelis their second lead of the lead midway through the second half. Ergotelis were closing in on a vital victory, but in the final minute of play, Konstantinos Chatzis salvaged a point for Apollon Larissa.
With 46 points, Platanias are in second place of the Football League, trailing runaway leaders Volos NFC by 10 points. Apollon Larissa are third with 45 points, while Ergotelis possess two points less in fourth spot of the table.
