Prize money adds extra incentive for AEK in decisive Europa League fixture

AEK Athens are in touching distance of the UEFA Europa League knockout stages, with the club requiring just one point in the final group match against Austria Vienna. If the Athenian outfit do successfully negotiate Thursday’s fixture, AEK could be awarded over one million euros.

Watch LIVE from AGONAsport as AEK look to book a place in the Last 32 of the UEFA Europa League when they travel to Austria Wien on Thursday, December 7th. Details here.

In the case that AEK seal a draw against Austria Vienna, the Greeks will be handed 920,000 euros by UEFA. However, if AEK manage to beat their opponents in the Austrian capital, the amount will be raised to 1.16 million. It certainly adds an extra incentive for the team to claim a second victory in the group and make the last 32.

500,000 euros are automatically given to every team that qualifies from Europa League groups, but an added sum of 300,000 is added if the club occupies second place in the group. An extra 120,000 will be granted if AEK draw with Austria Vienna, however that will be increased to 360,000 in the event that AEK win.

AEK currently sit in second place of Group D, holding seven points after five games. The Super League leaders must avoid defeat against Austria Vienna to prevent the Austrians from overtaking them in the group.
