On Monday morning, Xanthi released this following statement:

“Xanthi FC announces the termination of the contract with coach Kiko Ramirez. We thank him for his efforts, wishing him luck for the rest of his coaching career.”

Ramirez, 49, had only joined Xanthi in the summer after the departure of Milan Rastavac.

Initially, Xanthi made a wonderful start to the season under the leadership of Ramirez, notably beating both AEK and Panathinaikos in Athens. However, while Xanthi are still in a respectable sixth place of the Super League standings with 16 points on the board, they have now lost four of their past five league games. The 1-0 defeat to Lamia on Saturday was the final straw for the management.

Xanthi have won five, drawn one and lost five of their 11 Super League matches so far.

A replacement is yet to be announced.

Xanthi will host Atromitos in their next Super League game.
