Panathinaikos again put aside their off-field problems to focus on their football by thumping Panionios 3-0 in Nea Smyrni in a match which saw the home fans turn on the poorly-performing Panthers, while fourth-placed Atromitos smashed relegated Platanias 4-1.

Panionios’ slim European hopes were all but extinguished on Sunday after goals from Luciano, Robin Lod and Guillermo Molins earned Panatinaikos a thoroughly-deserved victory.

It’s a win which moved Panathinaikos on to 35 points in mid-table, but more importantly has seriously damaged the chances for Michalis Grigoriou’s Panionios team of winning the race for fifth place - and Greece’s last European place.

Panionios are 10th and are now five points adrift of fifth-placed Asteras Tripolis.

Umbides (P) 30'

In Peristeri, it was all Atromitos as French forward Nicolas Diguiny lead the scoring with a hat-trick in their 4-1 home win over doomed Platanias, who are already preparing for life in the the Football League.

After Javier Umbides had given the hosts the lead from the penalty spot in the 30th minute, Diguiny then struck in the 36th, 68th, and 76th minutes to seal another powerful win for Damir Canadi’s team, who have undoubtedly been one of the stories of the 2017/18 season.

Chigozie Udoji got on the scoresheet for bottom club Platanias six minutes from full-time, while the Cretan club also had to play for 23 minutes with 10 players after Abdul Rahman Oues was sent-off.
