On Thursday, Asteras released this following statement:

“Asteras Tripolis FC announces the signing of a contract with coach Milan Rastavac. We welcome him to the team and wish him good luck.”

Rastavac, 46, shared his emotions from joining Asteras:

“I am very happy to have signed this contract, it’s a new challenge for me. I believe that we will work greatly together. I understand who Asteras are, and I think that we will be successful. First and foremost, our goal is to improve the way we play. We will then be able to achieve better results, which in turn will allow us to climb up the standings. I know the Super League very well.”

Borja Jimenez, who failed to get the best out of the Tripoli side, was sacked on Wednesday evening.

With 12 rounds in the books, Asteras currently languish in 12th position of the Super League table with only 11 points on the board. Asteras haven’t won a league match since defeating Lamia 4-1 in Tripoli on October 28.

Rastavac is no stranger to the Greek game. In June 2017, Rastavac became the head coach of Xanthi in the Super League, eventually receiving the sack after only finishing in 12th place of the 2018/2019 campaign. Rastavac began coaching in 2000 after he finished his playing career.

His first match as Asteras manager will take place on Sunday against AE Larissa at home.
