On Tuesday, the government revealed its desire to remove the punishment of relegation for multi-ownership, instead proposing to penalise the involved clubs with a deduction of 5-10 points from the standings. Previously, the Committee of Professional Sports had found PAOK and Xanthi guilty of a multi-ownership violation, subsequently recommending that both clubs should be relegated from the Super League.

The law amendment, which removes the threat of relegation for PAOK and Xanthi, has now been officially passed by parliament. The amendment was approved by a majority of 156-90:

Reports on Wednesday have also suggested that Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is in favour of pausing the Super League for the time being.

In an official statement, PAOK have promised to exhaust all legal routes to prove that the accusations of multi-ownership are completely false, while also accusing the state of fixing the Super League to make sure that Olympiacos become champions. PAOK currently hold a slender one-point lead over Olympiacos in first position of the table.

Xanthi, on the other hand, sit in seventh spot of the standings.

FIFA and UEFA are yet to react to the situation.
