Rodrigo Soares on his way to Thessaloniki
Brazilian right-back Rodrigo Soares is due to arrive in Thessaloniki to seal his PAOK transfer, while Ukrainian midfielder Yevhen Shakhov has rejected the club’s latest contract proposal.
According to reports, Rodrigo Soares will arrive in Thessaloniki this afternoon to complete his PAOK transfer. A free agent after his contract with Desportivo Aves reached its completion, the 26-year-old defender initially held negotiations with AEK, but he subsequently spoke with PAOK and made the decision to join the Thessaloniki-based organisation.
Soares will undergo his medical examinations in Thessaloniki before signing his contract with the Greek champions. Transfermarkt rates his value at one million euros.
During the 2018/2019 campaign, the right-back made 37 appearances across all competitions for Desportivo Aves in Portugal, registering four goals and six assists. Desportivo Aves finished in 14th place of the Liga NOS.
The Brazilian has previously played for União São João, Santo André, Anápolis, FC Porto, Chaves and Desportivo Aves.
SHAKHOV TURNS DOWN PAOK PROPOSAL
It seemed Yevhen Shakhov would stay at PAOK, but new reports have revealed that the experienced Ukrainian midfielder has declined the club’s generous contract proposal.
PAOK allegedly offered to double Shakhov’s wages from 400,000 to 800,000. However, Shakhov still isn’t satisfied by the offer on the table, and the 28-year-old is set to leave PAOK this summer with his current contract expiring. Shakhov is looking to continue his career in either Italy or Turkey.
Since joining PAOK in 2016, Shakhov has won the Greek Cup on three occasions and the 2018/2019 Super League title, playing an important role in midfield. Shakhov scored five goals and made two assists in all tournaments this season.
