Samaris begins contract renewal talks with Benfica
In a turn of events, contract renewal talks between Benfica and Andreas Samaris have begun after the Greek international was certain to depart this summer.

After a disappointing start to the season with Benfica, where Samaris saw minimal playing time and was set to depart the club this summer, the Greek international has begun talks to extend his contract with the Eagles. Samaris has been a rejuvenated player since Benfica switched managers from Rui Vitoria to Bruno Lage in January. The Greek midfielder has started in the last seven league matches under the new boss and has helped his team retake first place in the league standings ahead of Porto.
Due to these turn of events, club president Luis Fillipe Vieira has decided to extend Samaris contract with the club, which ends this summer. With Samaris wanting to stay at Benfica, the two sides have already begun negotiations with more developments expected in the next week.
This can only come as good news to Greek coach, Angelos Anastasiadis, as the Euro qualifiers begun this month. Greece have had issues in the midfield in recent years and the presence of an in-form Samaris could add much needed stability to Greece’s central line.
