On Friday, AEK released this following statement:

“AEK BC announces that it has reached an agreement with CSKA Moscow for the transfer of Howard Sant-Roos, who today (10/01) terminated his contract.

“AEK BC thanks the athlete’s contributions with our team during the 17 months in which he wore the Vasilissa jersey, as he helped the club win the 2019 FIBA Intercontinental Cup which was the first international success for a Greek club in seven years.

“AEK BC also thanks the management of the Russian club for its sincere cooperation throughout the negotiation process.

“Loco, you will always be in our hearts.”

Initially, AEK had refused to sell Sant-Roos, but they couldn’t resist when CSKA offered 500,000 euros to buy out the Cuban’s contract. This will be the first time in Sant-Roos’ career when he will compete in the EuroLeague.

Sant-Roos, 28, joined AEK in August 2018. During his time in Athens, the Havana-born defender was a leading figure for the Kitrinomavri, notably helping the club win the 2019 FIBA Intercontinental Cup and impressing with excellent showings in the Basketball Champions League. This season, Sant-Roos averaged 12.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.4 steals with AEK in the Basketball Champions League.
