Greek football, packed with hot emotions and a distinct lack of calmness, has long been known for its coaching merry-go-round. We’re not even in December yet, but with 11 rounds of the 2019/2020 Super League campaign in the books, seven out of the 14 participating clubs have already changed their head coach at least once. If we take AE Larissa into account, who sacked Gordan Petric in favour of Michalis Grigoriou before the league season had started, that figure rises to eight.

The headline coaching change occurred at AEK. In the summer, Dimitris Melissanidis took the decision to hire Miguel Cardoso as a replacement for Manolo Jimenez, but the latter didn’t last long at the helm. Initially, AEK defeated Universitatea Craiova in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League, but the level of performance was poor and Cardoso was eventually sent packing after a dismal 2-1 home loss to Xanthi. His successor, Nikos Kostenoglou, is now on the verge of receiving the sack too after a series of disappointing results.

Over in Thessaloniki, Aris have greatly improved since Michael Oenning became their boss in October, with the club rising to fifth place of the Super League. Aris had struggled at the start of the campaign under the leadership of Savvas Pantelidis, notably losing to Molde in the Europa League qualification playoffs and only taking one point from the opening two rounds of the Super League.

Here are all of the Super League coaching changes since the 2019/2020 season began:

AEK: Miguel Cardoso sacked; Nikos Kostenoglou appointed

Aris: Savvas Pantelidis sacked; Apostolos Terzis becomes interim boss; Michael Oenning appointed

Atromitos: Giannis Anastasiou sacked; Giorgos Korakakis and Sokratis Ofrydopoulos become interim coaches

Lamia: Sotiris Antoniou sacked; Akis Mantzios appointed

Panetolikos: Luis Castro sacked; Makis Chavos appointed

Panionios: Akis Mantzios sacked; Nikodimos Papavasiliou appointed

Xanthi: Kiko Ramirez sacked; replacement yet to be appointed
