Skibbe ready for Grammenos meeting, EPO deny Postecoglou rumours

In the coming week, Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) president Evangelos Grammenos is set to meet with Greek national team head coach Michael Skibbe, as it seems likely that the German will keep his position.

Following the disappointing 0:2 defeat to Finland in the UEFA Nations League, reports suggested the EPO was on the verge of giving Skibbe the sack, however the federation seem to have had a change of heart. According to the media, EPO president Grammenos is prepared to give the 53-year old a final chance as Ethniki Omada head coach for the last two Nations League matches against the Finns and Estonia in Athens, with the organisation reportedly unwilling to pay Skibbe a large amount of compensation in order to cancel his contract.

This week, Grammenos is expected to meet with Skibbe to discuss future plans, but whatever the outcome, the latter will probably stay in his role until at least the completion of the Nations League in November. If Greece win the upcoming two matches, it’s possible that Skibbe will be kept for the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, while poor results could push him out of the door. The EPO Board of Directors meeting will take place on October 25.

EPO DENY POSTECOGLOU LINK

Recently, stories were published connecting former Australian national team manager Ange Postecoglou with the Ethniki job, but the EPO rebuffed the claims and revealed that there is no truth in these rumours at all. In the past, Postecoglou enjoyed success with Australia, winning the 2015 Asian Cup and coaching the country at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. At the moment, the 53-year old coaches the Yokohama F. Marinos in the Japanese J1 League.
