AEK CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE IN DERBIES

The derby misery continues for AEK. On Sunday, the Kitrinomavri produced a rather dull performance against Olympiacos at the Olympic Stadium, stuttering to a 0-0 draw without creating many opportunities. At the start of the second half, Petros Mantalos presented Marko Livaja with a wonderful chance, but the latter was denied by the alert Jose Sa.

Overall, AEK have now failed to win in 13 consecutive derbies against Olympiacos, Panathinaikos or PAOK across all competitions, tallying six draws and seven defeats in those games. AEK’s last derby triumph was recorded on 1 April 2018, when Panathinaikos were beaten 3-0 at the OAKA. That particular season ended with AEK becoming the Super League champions.

AEK’s derby results in all competitions since April 2018:

12/05/2018: AEK - PAOK - 0-2

23/09/2018: PAOK - AEK - 2-0

07/10/2018: AEK - Olympiacos - 1-1

03/11/2018: Panathinaikos - AEK - 0-0

03/02/2019: AEK - PAOK - 1-1

17/02/2019: Olympiacos - AEK - 4-1

09/03/2019: AEK - Panathinaikos - 0-0

11/05/2019: AEK - PAOK - 0-1

29/09/2019: AEK - PAOK - 2-2

27/10/2019: Olympiacos - AEK - 2-0

10/11/2019: Panathinaikos - AEK - 3-2

12/01/2020: PAOK - AEK - 1-0

26/01/2020: AEK - Olympiacos - 0-0

PANATHINAIKOS IN BEST FORM FOR 16 MONTHS

Panathinaikos are on a mission. In Larissa, two penalties from Anastasios Chatzigiovanis and Giannis Bouzoukis were enough to defeat the hosts 2-0 at the AEL FC Arena, their fifth consecutive victory in all tournaments and their fourth Super League triumph in a row. The Prasini are now only four points behind third-placed AEK in fourth position of the standings.

This is the best winning streak for Panathinaikos since the beginning of the 2018/2019 season when they defeated Xanthi (1-0), Lamia (3-1), AEL (3-1), Levadiakos (3-0) and PAS Giannina (2-1) in the domestic championship.

PENALTIES KEEP ON COMING FOR PANATHINAIKOS

The Athenians are continuing to force their opponents into conceding penalties. So far, with 21 rounds in the books, Panathinaikos have earned 12 spot-kicks in the Super League, converting nine of them - more than anyone else in the championship. Three of the 12 penalties were missed in games against Olympiacos, Panionios and AEL, with Chatzigiovanis having been responsible for two of those three missed penalty kicks.
