SLGR Stats: Olympiacos complete season with resounding victory

OLYMPIACOS TOO STRONG FOR AEK

It was a season to remember for the Erythrolefki. Having already long clinched the title, Olympiacos rounded off the campaign with a 3-0 triumph over a poor AEK side at the Karaiskakis Stadium, their 28th victory of the season in just 36 games! Overall, Pedro Martins’ troops tallied 28 wins, seven draws and one defeat in the 2019/2020 Super League season, only losing the one match against PAOK. Olympiacos finished 18 points above the Dikefalos tou Vorra.

Furthermore, Olympiacos managed to score 74 goals in the league, while only conceding 16 at the same time. AEK registered the second highest goal tally with 59 markers on the board.

FORTOUNIS MAKES 200TH LEAGUE APPEARANCE ACROSS CAREER

It was an important occasion for attacking midfielder Kostas Fortounis too.

If we take all leagues into account, the gifted 27-year-old has now made 200 appearances in domestic championships as a professional football, with 167 being tallied in the Super League, 13 in the Gamma Ethniki, 28 in the Bundesliga and 42 in the Bundesliga 2. Fortounis marked the day by dishing out two assists in the comfortable victory against AEK in Piraeus.

  • Panathinaikos defender Dimitris Kolovetsios has participated in 200 league games across his professional career;

  • Panionios’ 500th draw in 1895 Alpha Ethniki/Super League matches sentenced the historic Nea Smyrni club to relegation;

  • Kostas Fortounis made two assists as Olympiacos breezed past AEK at home;

  • Despite the result, Panionios goalkeeper Matic Kotnik impressed against Atromitos on the road with several tough saves to keep his team in the game;

  • Julian Cuesta was on top form to preserve a point for Aris at the Toumba Stadium;

  • Vasilis Xenopoulos stopped his second penalty in as many Super League matches to help Panathinaikos beat OFI 3-2;

  • Fellow goalkeeper Jose Sa ended the Super League campaign with 22 clean sheets for Olympiacos.
