OLYMPIACOS SET NEW RECORD WITH THREE GOALS IN NINE MINUTES

Olympiacos weren’t prepared to show Panionios any mercy. Flying out of the blocks, the Erythrolefki immediately put the game to bed in Piraeus, scoring three times within the first nine minutes through Ahmed Hassan, Youssef El Arabi and Kostas Fortounis. El Arabi later added a fourth to secure an emphatic 4-0 triumph which keeps Olympiacos in first position of the Super League.

No team in domestic championship history had ever previously opened up a three-goal lead in the opening nine minutes of a match. The previous record of three goals in 10 minutes was set by Panathinaikos in 1961 and 1969.

DEBUT JOY FOR VAGIANNIDIS

A moment he will never forget. Making his competitive debut for Panathinaikos, 18-year-old Giorgos Vagiannidis stole the headlines at the Olympic Stadium, scoring the opening goal in the 23rd minute of the game against Panetolikos. Vagiannidis, a full-back by trade, played 60 minutes before he was eventually substituted by Giorgos Donis.

Vagiannidis is now the youngest Panathinaikos player to score on his maiden appearance at 18 years, five months and five days old. He has beaten the record which had been set by Dimitris Emmanouilidis.

Panathinaikos went on to beat Panetolikos 3-1 in Athens and maintain their grip on fourth position.

AEK WIN AT ARIS FOR FIRST TIME IN 10 YEARS

AEK are continuing to make strides forward under the leadership of Massimo Carrera.

In the fifth minute of play in Thessaloniki, Christos Almpanis connected with an intelligent pass from Serbian midfielder Nenad Krsticic, subsequently prodding the ball beyond Julian Cuesta to gift AEK an important 1-0 triumph. AEK, although they’ve long been out of the title race, boast a solid seven-point advantage over fifth-placed Panathinaikos.

This marked AEK’s first triumph at the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium since October 2010 when they beat Aris 4-0 on the road. Last season, AEK were defeated 2-0 by Aris in Thessaloniki.
