PAOK EXTEND IMPRESSIVE UNBEATEN RUN IN DERBIES

PAOK refuse to lose. Withstanding heavy pressure in the closing stages, PAOK earned an important point at the Karaiskakis Stadium against Olympiacos, holding their opponents to a tense 1-1 draw. Olympiacos equalised with a second-half penalty from Mathieu Valbuena after Sverrir Ingi Ingason had initially given PAOK the lead.

The reigning Greek champions are now unbeaten in 10 consecutive Super League derbies against AEK, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos:

29/04/2018, Panathinaikos - PAOK - 0-3

23/09/2018, PAOK - AEK - 2-0

30/09/2018, Olympiacos - PAOK - 0-1

29/10/2018, PAOK - Panathinaikos - 2-0

03/02/2019, AEK - PAOK - 1-1

03/11/2019, PAOK - Panathinaikos - 2-2

01/12/2019, Olympiacos - PAOK - 1-1

At the moment, both Olympiacos and PAOK share first place of the Super League table with 28 points each after 12 rounds.

DONIS ACHIEVES 100 WINS

Panathinaikos’ narrow 1-0 win against Asteras Tripolis at the Olympic Stadium means that Giorgos Donis has now achieved 100 victories as a coach in the top level of Greek football. Overall, Donis is the 27th coach in history to tally 100 wins in the championship. He is the 14th Greek manager to achieve this feat.

Donis’ Alpha Ethniki/Super League statistics as head coach:

Matches: 268

Wins: 100

Draws: 90

Defeats: 78

Donis’ Alpha Ethniki/Super League wins by team:

Atromitos: 32

KRISTINSSON GETTING A TASTE FOR ASSISTS

Ogmundur Kristinsson is playing a key role for AEL at both ends of the pitch. Earlier in the season, the 30-year-old Icelandic goalkeeper provided an intelligent assist for Amr Warda’s winning goal at the OAKA against Panathinaikos, and he repeated the trick on Saturday by assisting the second marker scored by Abiola Dauda. AEL edged past Volos NFC 2-1 in Larissa.

“I have gained assists in the past, but this is the first time when I have made two of them in one single season,” revealed Kristinsson when speaking to Nova Sports after beating Volos.
