AEK CONTINUE BARREN RUN IN MAJOR DERBIES

While they showed character to salvage a pulsating 2-2 draw against PAOK at the OAKA, AEK once again failed to emerge victorious in a major Super League derby, with the Enosis struggling in games with the Dikefalos tou Vorra, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos.

AEK are yet to win a Super League against one of the big four since winning the championship in the 2017/2018 campaign. Last season, AEK claimed four draws in six games against either Olympiacos, PAOK or Panathinaikos while conceded two defeats. AEK’s most recent derby win in the league was a 3-0 triumph over Panathinaikos on April 1, 2018.

PAOK UNBEATEN IN TWO SUCCESSIVE VISITS TO AEK FOR FIRST TIME IN 36 YEARS

In the 2018/2019 season, PAOK picked up a 1-1 draw against AEK in Athens, and the Dikefalos tou Vorra repeated the trick on Sunday by drawing 2-2. This is the first time since 1983 when PAOK have managed to not lose on the road against AEK in two consecutive Super League campaigns.

Ever since defeating Olympiacos 1-0 in Piraeus on September 30, 2018, PAOK had always been on top of the Super League. However, after dropping points at AEK, the Thessaloniki giants have now been knocked off their perch. Olympiacos hold a slender one-point lead over second-placed Xanthi in first position.

NO GOALLESS DRAWS

So far, 35 matches have been played in the 2019/2020 Super League season, and not one of them has ended goalless. At least one goal has been scored in every game, with reigning champions PAOK currently the top scorers with 11 goals in five matches. PAOK have also conceded eight at the other end - it took them until February to concede eight goals in the 2018/2019 campaign.

ATROMITOS WIN 200 MATCHES IN TOP TIER

On Saturday, Atromitos were able to celebrate their 200th victory in the top flight in their history, defeating Panetolikos 2-0 in Peristeri thanks to two goals from Giorgos Manousos. Overall, it took Atromitos 593 matches to achieve this, and they have become the 17th Greek club in history to tally 200 victories in the top division. Atromitos have also drawn 177 times and conceded 216 defeats.

STATISTICS FROM FAMOUS AEL 3-2 WIN AT ARIS

  • AEL win at Aris for the first time since April 11, 1993;

  • Aris concede three goals at home for the first time since November 5, 2011, when they lost 3-2 to Olympiacos;

  • Last time when AEL scored three goals at Aris was on December 30, 1984;

  • First time in history when AEL win an away match in the Super League after trailing by two goals;

  • AEL score three goals in away game on the first occasion since March 13, 2011.

STANDOUT PLAYERS FROM MATCHDAY FIVE

  • Dimitris Limnios and Karol Swiderski combine for two almost identical goals against AEK at the OAKA, with the latter the current Super League top scorer with four goals in five matches;

  • Marko Livaja continues fantastic run of form for AEK with an intelligent assist for Dmytro Chygrynskiy’s goal against PAOK;

  • For the third time since joining the club in August 2018, Marko Nunic scores two Super League goals in one single game for AEL.
