Solid Aris secure qualification against Atromitos

Aris qualified for the semi-finals of the Greek Cup with a solid 1-0 triumph over Atromitos in Peristeri.

Having not conceded any away goals in the first leg in Thessaloniki, Aris were in a strong position ahead of the return at the Peristeri Municipal Stadium, and they duly earned a 1-0 triumph which takes them safely through to the semi-finals of the Greek Cup.
Aris quickly got the job done. In the 15th minute of play, Swedish midfielder Daniel Larsson found himself in a great position after escaping the attention of the Atromitos defence, and he subsequently calmly slotted the ball beyond Balazs Megyeri.
A goal which made Atromitos’ life extremely difficult.
Interestingly, not long before Aris’ goal Apostolos Vellios missed a glorious chance when flagged offside, but replays did show that he was in fact onside, meaning the goal would have stood had he hit the target.
Atromitos struggled to create opportunities. At times, the Peristeri hosts showed plenty of endeavour, but Aris stood firm and goalkeeper Julian Cuesta was rarely tested.
In the second half, Aris proved to be the more dangerous, with Megyeri pulling off a handful of saves. Nevertheless, it mattered little, with the Thessaloniki-based visitors calmly holding on.
This is the first time since 2010 when Aris have qualified for the semi-finals of the competition.
