In the 18th minute of the 1-0 victory at Atromitos, Soudani fell to the floor with a knock to his knee, and it has now been confirmed that the 32-year-old suffered the dreaded anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The Algerian attacker will miss the remainder of the 2019/2020 campaign.

At the start of September, Soudani wasn’t included in the Olympiacos player list for the UEFA Champions League group stage, however he was picked by Pedro Martins for the upcoming UEFA Europa League knockout duel against Arsenal. Olympiacos dropped down into the Europa League after losing out to Bayern Munich and Tottenham in the Champions League group phase.

Since joining Olympiacos from Nottingham Forest, Soudani made a grand total of 21 appearances for the Erythrolefki, contributing with seven goals and five assists in the Super League.

On Twitter, Soudani issued this following statement:

Olympiacos wished Soudani well on social media:

Soudani was also hit by a serious leg injury during the 2018/2019 season at Nottingham Forest.

Interestingly, in the space of 12 months, three Olympiacos players - Lazaros Christodoulopoulos, Kostas Fortounis and Soudani - have all received the ACL injury, which leaves footballers on the sidelines for a minimum of six months.
