Last weekend, the 2019/2020 Super League regular season came to an end, with the top six clubs qualifying for the championship playoffs and all remaining teams dropping into the relegation playouts. Originally, the playoffs and playouts were supposed to begin on March 7-8, but clubs will unanimously vote in favour of postponing the start of the competition for at least another week. The voting process will take place on Thursday.

The main reason behind the decision is the ongoing legal case involving a multi-ownership allegation directed at PAOK and Xanthi. Super League clubs do not want to play again in the championship until the punishment for PAOK and Xanthi is revealed. The two teams are threatened with a points deduction or even relegation.

Punishments for PAOK and Xanthi would naturally alter the Super League regular season standings. PAOK, the reigning champions, finished in second position with 51 points on the board. Xanthi earned ninth spot with 30 points from 26 games.

Nevertheless, despite the mess, the draw for the playoffs and playouts will still be held on Thursday during the Super League Board of Directors meeting. Moreover, the regular season standings will also be validated, although they will be subject to amendments if PAOK and Xanthi are punished.

It also remains to be seen if the Super League playoffs/playouts will be delayed even further taking into account that PAOK and Xanthi will submit appeals against possible punishments.
