Internazionale are reportedly eager to secure the signature of Giorgos Vagiannidis, who has displayed his potential with Panathinaikos.

Vagiannidis, 18, caught the eye for Panathinaikos when making his Super League debut this season. On February 16, the teenage right-back was handed his maiden start for the Athenians in the domestic championship, subsequently scoring a goal and dishing out an assist as his team breezed past Panetolikos 3-1 at the Olympic Stadium. Vagiannidis also competed in one Greek Cup match against Panachaiki in December of last year.

The young prospect is out of contract at Panathinaikos this summer. Not long ago, it was expected that Vagiannidis would pen a new deal with the Athens-based club, but reports are now suggesting that he is close to moving to Internazionale. Interestingly, Gazzetta dello Sport even stated that Vagiannidis has already agreed to become an Inter player, before Greek media sources subsequently rebuffed those claims by claiming that the full-back is currently weighing up his options.

Panathinaikos are predicted to offer Vagiannidis improved terms in a bid to keep him in the Greek capital.

Vagiannidis has participated in four games with the under 19 Greek national team.

CHRISTOS DONIS FUTURE UNCERTAIN

The future of Christos Donis is very much uncertain. Initially, the midfielder was offered a new contract by the Panathinaikos management, but the club has now reportedly withdrawn that proposal as a consequence of the financial implications caused by the coronavirus pandemic. In the coming days, Panathinaikos will offer Donis another contract, however the wage total will be somewhat reduced.

Donis, 25, contributed with one goal and one assist in 23 Super League regular season games.

Swedish right-back, Mattias Johansson, has also received a contract proposal from Panathinaikos. However, the 28-year-old’s first response was negative, with the club asking for him to take a salary cut. Johansson has been a solid figure for Panathinaikos on the flank since arriving from AZ Alkmaar in August 2017.

Johansson’s contract is due to expire in June.

APOSTOLAKIS TO JOIN APOEL

It has already been confirmed that Konstantinos Apostolakis, 20, will move to Marinos Ouzounidis’ APOEL upon the completion of the 2019/2020 campaign.

This season, the young right-back has struggled to make a major impact with the Prasini, competing in six Super League games and two Greek Cup matches. Apostolakis progressed through the Panathinaikos youth system before breaking into the senior side.

PANATHINAIKOS PREDICTED TO REMAIN AT OAKA

As previously reported on AGONAsport, Panathinaikos were seriously considering moving back to their historic Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium in the centre of Athens, but a recent report by Sport FM has revealed that the organisation will instead probably remain at the hugely unpopular Olympic Stadium.

Panathinaikos have spent the last two seasons at the OAKA which rarely witnesses large attendances.
