Coming into the match, the Greek held a 3-1 record against Zverev, winning three consecutive matches over the German. Despite facing a break point early in the first set, Tsitsipas was able to hold serve and ultimately take the set 6-3. Tsitsipas then broke Zverev’s serve in the opening game of the second set, and never looked back. The Greek cruised to a 6-3 6-2 victory and has now secured his spot in the semifinals after not losing a set through two matches so far. Tsitsipas was fantastic on serve today, hitting eight aces, only facing one break point (which he saved), and winning 86% of points on his first serve.

Tsitsipas will now face world number one Rafael Nadal on Friday. Although Tsitsipas has already booked his place in the semifinals, a win over Nadal would see him win the group and eliminate the Spaniard. Additionally, Tsitsipas could better his head-to-head record against the current world number one. Tsitsipas holds a 1-4 record against Nadal, and is 2-10 in sets against the Spaniard. Nadal won both of their previous matches played on hard courts, though they have never played on indoor hard courts, which should better suit the Greek’s style of play.
