The Greek had a sluggish start to the final, being broken in the opening game of the match. Nevertheless, in a great response, he immediately responded with a break back. The opening set was a tight battle between two quality top-10 opponents. Tsitsipas broke the Austrian’s serve in the eighth service game of the set on his third break-point opportunity, and he subsequently saw the frame out to clinch it 6-3 and move a step closer to the trophy.

Tsitsipas was in the box seat early in the second set claiming a break in the third service game. However, the Greek’s lead didn’t last long, with Thiem immediately breaking Tsitsipas back. The Greek was unable to keep himself in the set, as Thiem managed to break Tsitsipas again to win the second set 6-4.

Thiem, who was the top seed coming into the tournament, was dominant in the deciding set, breaking Tsitsipas’ serve on two occasions to take a commanding 5-0 lead. The Greek managed to hold serve in the sixth service game of the final set, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Thiem who was able to take out the deciding set 6-1

Tsitsipas will now turn his attention to the Shanghai Masters which begins this week, where he will be the sixth seed.
