Tsitsipas, who was previously at a career-high of 10 in the world, moved up to number 8 after reaching the fourth round at the Miami Open, a Masters 1000 event. The Greek had a bye in the first round, defeated American Mackenzie McDonald 7-6 6-1 in the second round, and defeated Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer 6-4 6-4 in the third round. In the fourth round, Canada’s Denis Shapovalov edged Tsitsipas 4-6 6-3 7-6, in what was regarded as one of the best matches of the year so far.

In the ATP Race to London rankings (year-to-date rankings), Tsitsipas is currently fourth in the world, just behind Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal. With his year-to-date ranking being ahead of his 52-week ranking, he would be set to rise even more, should he continue to achieve good results this season. With few points to defend over the next few months, he will certainly have many opportunities to gain more points and move up in the rankings.

In Miami, Tsitsipas also made it to the doubles final alongside Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands. The Dutch-Greek duo won four matches to get there, including a second round win over second-seeded Jamie Murray of Great Britain and Bruno Soares of Brazil. In the final, they lost 7-5 7-6 to the Bryan twins from the United States, who won their sixth Miami Open title as a team. When the new doubles rankings were released on Monday, Tsitsipas rose from 226 to a new doubles career-high of 98 in the world. As a result, he has become the first Greek man to make the top 100 in doubles, as Vasilis Mazarakis was previously the highest-ranked Greek doubles player ever, with a career-high of 101 in the world.
