Following Tsitsipas’ three set loss to world number one Rafael Nadal of Spain earlier today, the result of the Medvedev-Zverev match was to determine who would win Group Agassi, and who would finish runner-up. If Medvedev won, Nadal would have won the group and faced Federer in the semifinals, and Tsitsipas would have finished second in the group and played against Dominic Thiem of Austria. If Zverev won that match, Tsitsipas would have won the group and took on Federer, while Zverev would have taken second place and faced Thiem in tomorrow’s semifinals. Zverev defeated Medvedev in straight sets, therefore Tsitsipas won the group and will take on Federer.

Federer and Tsitsipas have played against each other three times in official matches, with all of those matches taking place this year. Tsitsipas got the better of Federer at the Australian Open, but the world number three beat the Greek in Dubai and also last month at his home tournament in Basel, winning in straight sets. The match will take place at 14:00 local time in London tomorrow (16:00 Greece time).
