Tzengko also recorded throws of 59.70 metres, 62.30 metres, 61.61 metres, 62.03 metres, and 60.76 metres at the Greek National School Championships, to win gold. The previous world record was set in 2017 by Cuba’s Marisleysis Duarthe, who threw the javelin 65.45 metres.

Tzengko, who was born and raised in Halkidiki, received Greek citizenship less than a year ago. Since then, she has established herself as one of the future stars of Greek athletics. In October, Tzengko won gold at the Summer Youth Olympics and set the Youth Olympic record with a throw of 63.34 metres, which was also her personal best up until now. It should be noted that this is with the 500 gram javelin used at the U18 level, and with the 600 gram javelin used at the senior level, Tzengko’s personal best is 56.94 metres.

Tzengko is not the first Greek to set a world record at the U18 level, as Konstantinos Douvalidis (men’s 110 metres hurdles) and Emmanouil Karalis (men’s indoor pole vault) have also done so in the past.
