Coming into Sunday’s grand final on the rings, 27-year old Petrounias was nursing an injury to his left shoulder, but the Greek brushed off the knock and performed admirably to earn his fourth consecutive European Championship gold medal with a total score of 15.466 points, taking 6.300 for difficulty and 9.166 for execution. His nearest challenger was Colak with 15.100 points, while British gymnast Courtney Tulloch finished in third position with a score of 15.000.

Overall, Greece boast eight medals from the 2018 European Championships in Scotland with four golds, three silvers and one bronze to show for the country’s efforts. The competition concludes later on today.

In a hugely impressive statistic, this is the fourth successive European Championship (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) when Petrounias has won the title on the rings. Petrounias, who will surely go down as one of the sport’s legends, is also the current Olympic and world champion.
