All the goals in Xanthi came in a crazy seven-minute spell late in the second half as an otherwise ordinary match exploded into life.

First the home side took the lead after 71 minutes when Admir Bajrovic tucked away a penalty, but then Xanthi turned the game on its head with goals from Eduardo and Fabio Sturgeon in the 73rd and 78th minutes respectively.

The win gave Kiko Ramirez’s Xanthi another three-point haul to follow-up their surprise win over AEK on Matchday 1, meaning that the Northern club have six points after two matches and are among the leading pack of early pace-setters.

Volos conquer Aris

Volos NFC 1 - 0 Aris
Jendrisek (P) 55'

Meanwhile in Magnisia, Volos, who had began their first season in the top flight with a surprise 2-1 win over Panionios on Matchday 1, followed that up with a narrow 1-0 home win over Aris.

In an evenly-matched encounter, Volos claimed all three points thanks to Erik Jedrisek’s 55th-minute penalty, which proved to be the difference between the two teams at the Panthessaliko Stadium.

Both teams had their fair share of chances in what was a fairly open game, but the crucial moment came 10 minutes after half-time when Volos defender Lefteris Lyratzis’s shot was blocked by the arm of Hugo Sousa.

Slovakian striker Jedrisek made no mistake from 12 yards, giving his team a vital lead which they were to hold on to until the end of the 90 minutes.

Aris were unlucky not to get anything from this game, however, with French forward Nicolas Diguiny missing an early chance in the first half and also hitting the woodwork with an effort seven minutes from full-time.
