Xanthi, who had last claimed three points on October 5 against Panathinaikos, won at the Xanthi FC Arena thanks to Eduardo Teixeira’s penalty just before the hour mark.
The win is a welcome relief for Kiko Ramirez’s side, who had gone five games without tasting victory, while it’s a case of back to the drawing board for Atromitos.
The Peristeri club enjoyed a 2-1 win over OFI Crete on new coach Georgios Korakakis last weekend, but again consistency seems to remain a big issue for the Athens club.
HIGHLIGHTS
Aris halted in Thessaloniki
In Thessaloniki, Aris were held to a second draw in as many games with the score ending 1-1 at the Kleanthis Vikelidis stadium against Lamia.
The Fthiotida club actually went in front through Brazilian forward Rogerio Thuram’s 16th-minute strike, but Aris pulled level thanks to Daniel Larsson after 32 minutes.
Aris pushed on in the second half in search of an equaliser, but the well-organised defence of the visitors managed to keep out the home side’s attempts to score, and both teams had to settle for a point.
