On Wednesday, FC Copenhagen confirmed the news:

“F.C. Copenhagen's Carlos Zeca has been voted the 3F Superliga Player of the Year 2019.”

In the 2018/2019 campaign, Copenhagen became champions of Denmark for the 13th time in their history, finishing 11 points ahead of second-placed Midtjylland. Zeca, the club captain, helped the capital outfit win the championship by scoring one goal and dishing out two assists in 32 matches.

So far, the 31-year-old central midfielder has made 22 Superliga appearances for Copenhagen in the 2019/2020 season, grabbing one goal and assist. Copenhagen currently occupy second position of the standings, nine points behind leaders Midtjylland.

"I'm really happy to earn this award, and I have to admit when I'm a little overcome too, because normally scoring a lot of goals or doing something like that wins you such an award," said Zeca. "I want to thank my teammates, coaches, staff and all those who have helped me a lot in Copenhagen. I also want to thank the fans, who always push us to become better. And I'd like to thank my family for always supporting me.”

The decision was made by a jury among all Superliga coaches and others.

Since joining from Panathinaikos in the summer of 2017, Zeca has participated in 114 Copenhagen matches, registering five goals and wearing the captain’s armband on 78 occasions.
