Most NFL related discussions are centered on the offensive side of the game. Most of us forgot about how defense contributed to a team's success. The defensive team is the team that starts the game without possession of the ball. They are the team that prevents the opposite team from scoring.
This year, there are so many teams that exhibit great defense that we should not. We are now almost at the end of this year's regular season, and there are so many teams that have shown us how strong their defense is.
1.Pittsburgh Steelers
One of the NFL teams that constantly top the NFL defensive side in the last couple of decades is the Pittsburgh Steelers. The last time they proved how their defensive side is the best in the NFL during their match with the Jaguars.
The Duel ended up with a score of 27-3 in favor of the Steelers. The Steeler let the Jaguar have the ball to begin the game. Jake Luton opened up the Jaguar's offense by throwing 18 yards in the game's first play.
The Steelers defense made a big step when Luton's offense. Tyson Alualu tipped Luton's pass with Minkah Fitzpatrick's interception. With 2:56 in the clock for the first half, the Steelers were placed in the midfield by Fitzpatrick's return. The Steelers dominated the field and ended the game as the winners making them an undefeated team.

Another famous team in the NFL that possesses one of the league's best defenses is the Baltimore Ravens. They always finish in the top-7 on D. However, they dominated the number 4 spot for the past two years even though they had the worst fate when it comes to injuries.
It is their match with the Cincinnati Bengals that the Ravens make a record in the defense, the first-ever in NFL regular-season history. How they show-off their defense in past matches, the Baltimore Ravens are considered as the team that has the stingiest defense in the NFL.
However, the team may become short-handed in defense as the Ravens have enlisted 20 players on the Reserve/COVID-19, including defenders Pernell McPhee, Brandon Williams, Jihan Ward, Calais Campbell, and many more. These defenders won't be playing as they are restricted by COVID-19 protocol.
3. San Francisco 49ers
Since coach Kyle Shanahan and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh took over their team roles, the 49ers' defense improved dramatically. The team even took the 23rd spot in the DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) defense ranking in 2018.
The team continued to improve their defense as both defensive end players Dee Ford and Nick Bosa joined the team. The two brought the team into the number 2 spot in DVOA ranking in 2019. The PPF (Pro Football Focus) expected the 49ers to dominate the defensive side this season.
Besides, Richard Sherman is back in the game alongside cornerback Jason Verrett. The 49ers won't back down and will take their opponent head-to-head with Saleh's instructions and the support of Shanahan.
4. Indianapolis Colts
They joined the league as one with the best defenses. However, with the absence of their best defensive tackle player DeForest Buckner last Sunday, the team failed to defend against the Titans.
Their defense scored 345 yards and 35 points in the first half of the game. Compared to their past two games where they allowed 63 points in the first half, we can say that the Colts defense is hanging by the edge.
Looking back to the beginning of this season where the Colts are included in the top ranking of every in most of the statistical categories due to their dominant defense and other strong execution in the team's overall performance.
5. Miami Dolphins
The defense of the Miami Dolphins undoubtedly can put them in number one. The Dolphins are known in the league to have a poor defense. They are one of the teams that has the worst defense in the past season.
But this season, the Dolphins have shown everyone their defense, and it has undeniably improved a lot. They can instantly turn from one of the worst to one of the best and even become number one.
The Dolphins still have more games to play to claim the number one best defense in this year's NFL. With what the team has shown, they may be the number one best defense of the 2020 NFL by the end of this season.
The defensive line is important in playing football. They are the ones who will stop the opponent's quarterback from scoring. A weak defense will let the opponent get through and defeat the team in the game.
