Can Tsimikas make Champions League history with Liverpool?
For many players, winning the Champions League will represent the pinnacle of their playing careers. A lifetime of blood, sweat, and tears will all feel worth it when a much sought-after gold medal is placed around their neck.
Plenty have scaled that mountain, with some of the finest talents to have ever graced the game able to boast a European Cup triumph on their respective sporting CVs. Others, though, are not so fortunate. There are as many household names without a success to their name as there are glorious victors. Unfortunately for Greek football, they are yet to secure an invite to that particular party. Could that wrong be righted in 2022?

History beckons
There is, of course, still a long way to go in this season’s race for continental glory. With some big hitters very much in the hunt for a prestigious piece of silverware, anything could happen from this point. Premier League heavyweights are in the mix, though, and will believe that they stand as good a chance as any of steering a safe course to the Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg on May 28th, 2022.
Tsimikas is unlikely to have a starring role to play in the Reds’ quest for continental title number seven, but he may have an important role nonetheless. He has already shown in the current campaign that is far from being an understudy at Anfield. Andy Robertson may be the first choice at left-back, but Greek guile stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Scottish grit in the talent stakes and provides a useful alternative option, rather than a backup one.
Plenty of competitive game time has been taken in by Tsimikas, as Klopp becomes ever-more convinced by his worth, and further Champions League minutes are there to be shot at. If Liverpool does end up within touching distance of a prestigious prize, then nobody will want to be left in the shadows.
Not everybody will get the opportunities they crave, but fate can be a funny thing and unexpected avenues to ultimate glory can open up at any time. Tsimikas will be raring to go if called upon, with the potential to carve out his own piece of history in Greek football providing an intriguing subplot to an annual European tale that never fails to deliver on the drama front.
