Byron Kokkalanis finished in 5th place (overall) after today's medal race in the Men's RSX Sailing event. In the race, he finished in 8th place and failed to finish in the top 3 of the competition.
The Greek athlete finished 5th in qualifying and entered today's medal race with hopes of a medal. A bad start, with a two point deduction, made his task very difficult. In the end Kokkalanis finished 8th in the medal race to claim 5th place overall in the event (98 point deductions) while Pierre le Coque from France finished in 3rd with 86 point deductions. A reminder that Kokkalanis claimed 6th place 4 years ago in London.
The gold medal went to Dorian van Rijsselberghe from the Netherlands (25 point deductions) and the silver medal went to Nick Dempsey from Great Britain (52 point frictions)!
