TODAY'S COMPETING GREEK ATHLETES

Shooting - Women’s 10m Air Pistol, Qualifying & FINAL: Anna Korakaki
***The first Greek medal of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games was won by Anna Korakaki in the Women's 10m Pistol (Shooting). After finishing third in qualifying earlier in the day, Korakaki claimed 3rd place and received the BRONZE MEDAL in the final round with 177.7 points in 20 shots. The gold went to Zhang Mengxue from China (199.4 points) while Vitalina Batsarashkina from Russia received the silver medal with 197.4 points.

Table Tennis - Men’s Singles, Round 2 & 3: Panagiotis Gionis
***Panagiotis Gionis emphatically defeated Padasak Tanviriyavechakul from Thailand 4-0 (11-7, 11-2, 11-5, 11-6) set in the 2nd Round of the Men's Singles Table Tennis. In the 3rd Round (Last 32), Gionis put up a GREAT fight against Jun Mizutani from Japan but fell 4-1 set (11-9, 10-12, 11-5, 11-8, 11-6). Mizutani is one of the top athletes in the sport and will look for a medal at this year's games.

Rowing – Men’s Coxless Four, Heat 3: Angelopoulos, Christou, Tsilis & Tziallas
***Today's rowing races were canceled due to heavy winds. The athletes will compete tomorrow at 12:30 PM (EST), weather permitting.

Swimming – Men’s 100m Backstroke, Heat 5: Apostolos Christou
***Apostolos Christou was far from his best after finishing his heat in 6th place with a time of 54.12 seconds. The Greek athlete was eliminated by 0.13 seconds after claiming 18th place overall in the heats (needed to finish in the top 16). He will now turn his attention to the Men’s 200m backstroke event.

Swimming – Men’s 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay, Heat 2: Greece
***The Men's relay team consisting of Gkolomeev, Katranzis, Meladinis, and Christou finished their qualifying heat in 6th placed with a time of 3:14.62 and claimed 10th place overall . Unfortunately they did not qualify for the final which will consist of the top 8 teams.

Gymnastics – Women's Beam, Qualifying Group 4: Vasiliki Millousi
***Vasiliki Millousi scored a 13.200 in qualifying of the women’s Balance Beam and did not qualify for the final round. The Greek Champion had many instabilities in her difficult program and bowed out of the competition in 57th place.
