Yesterday, Paulinho made the trip to Athens, before he underwent his medical on Friday morning and subsequently signed a 2+1 contract with AEK. The 27-year-old was available on a free transfer after he left Chaves.

AEK confirmed his arrival with this following statement:

“AEK FC announces the signing of Paulo Sergio Mota (Paulinho) from Portuguese club Chaves.

The Portuguese right-back, born on July 13, 1991, signed a contract with the Enosis until the summer of 2021 with an extension option for another year. He chose to wear the number 27.

Paulinho, welcome to the AEK family!”

Paulinho shared his emotions from the transfer: “I have very happy to have signed for AEK, a club full of history. This is the first time when I have played outside of my native country. Before I moved here, I had a conversation with Andre Simoes, whom I know very well. I think I am ready to help the team. The presence of so many people from Portugal in the club was one of the reasons which persuaded me to come here. I am convinced that we will be successful together. I will give my best for AEK.”

In the 2018/2019 season, Paulinho made 25 appearances for Chaves across all competitions in Portugal, contributing with one assist. Paulinho racked up 1,871 minutes of action in the Liga NOS as Chaves suffered relegation to the second tier.

As a senior player, the Portuguese full-back has been on the books of Leixões, Moreirense, União Madeira, Braga and Chaves. This will be the first time in his career when Paulinho has played outside of his native Portugal.
