UEFA have appointed an English referee, Anthony Taylor, to officiate Greece’s upcoming qualifier against Group J favorites, Italy, on Saturday. The experienced official will have his countrymen Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn as his assistants while Craig Pawson will be the fourth official.

Taylor has never officiated a match involving Greece’s senior squad, however he has been in charge of two Greece U19 matches both at the UEFA Euro U19 finals. These include Greece’s 2:0 win against the Ukraine on July 6, 2015 and Greece’s 2:0 loss against Spain on June 5, 2013.

At the club level, he officiated a goalless draw between Olympiacos and Barcelona in the Champions League group stages, PAOK’s 1:2 loss to Ajax in Champions League qualifying, and PAOK’s 1:1 draw at home to Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Europa League.

He has been a FIFA referee since 2013 and the biggest match he has officiated in his career was the 2017 FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Chelsea. Taylor is known to give out many yellow cards as seen in his last refereed match between Leeds and Derby County in the Premier League promotion playoffs, where he dished out nine yellow cards and two red cards!

Greece host Italy on Saturday, June 8th, at the OAKA Olympic Stadium with kick-off set for 21:45 local time.
