AEK shock Panathinaikos in thriller

With the OAKA Indoor Hall full of passionate AEK fans, the Kitrinomavri put on a show in the Athens Derby, defeating Athenian rivals Panathinaikos by three points in a pulsating encounter to move into second place of the Basket League table.
This is only Panathinaikos’ second loss of the league season.
Charalampos Giannopoulos (19 points), Kendrick Ray (15 points), Nikos Gikas (13 points), Howard Sant-Roos (11 points) and Keith Langford (11 points) took a leading role for Ilias Papatheodorou’s troops.
Nick Calathes was solid for Panathinaikos with 20 points.
Next week, AEK will look to extend their winning streak in a game at Kolossos Rodou, while Panathinaikos host Lavrio.
THE MATCH
AEK, visibly fired up against a tired Panathinaikos side which had recently returned from a long trip to Russia, immediately made a powerful sign of their intentions by scoring 32 points in the first quarter.
The in-form Athenians then scored another 31 in the second as they ripped apart the somewhat shaky Panathinaikos defence at will.
Sensing a shock loss, Panathinaikos forced the issue in the concluding two quarters, but AEK held on much to the delight of their supporters.
