COPA90 Stories Features Hatzipanagis
Recently, COPA90, the world’s largest independent football media business, created a tribute to former Greek footballer Vasilis Hatzipanagis. The short video documentary was part of the company’s COPA90 Stories and was entitled The Greek Maradona - The Best Player You’ve Never Heard Of.

The 4.5 minute video describes the career of Hatzipanagis, widely considered the best Greek footballer of all time. From his birth in the USSR and early footballing days in Uzbekistan, the story traces the rise of the Greek legend and his long career at Iraklis. With exclusive interviews from journalists, Iraklis supporters, as well as former teammates Giorgos Foiros and Christos Zifkas, the viewer gets a glimpse of the special player that ‘the Maradona of the Balkans’ truly was.
The production focuses on the similarities of Hatzipanagis to Diego Maradona including the time period in which both played, the low center of gravity of the two as well as the long, curly hair and magical left foot of both players. The video touches upon the strict transfer guidelines of the time and the inability of ‘Vasia’ to be able to move to a larger Greek club or to a team abroad.
COPA90 does a superb job in honoring the player voted as Greece’s best of the last 50 years back in 2003. For those interested in viewing the video, it has been included below.
