OFI back in Playoff picture after win over Atromitos

OFI Crete propelled themselves back into the battle to reach the Playoffs on Monday night thanks to a narrow 1-0 home win over rivals Atromitos at the Theodoros Vardinogiannis Stadium in Heraklion.

Vitor Figueiredo scored the only goal of the game for Giorgos Simos’ Cretan side with eight minutes left to lock up a vital three-point haul which saw them move into the final Playoff spot in sixth with 31 points and two games to play.
It was an enthralling match between two evenly-matched sides, with both teams having their fair share of chances in what was a fairly open Matchday 24 encounter on Greece’s most Southern Aegean island.
The home side had already had the ball in the net six minutes after the hour mark but Vitor’s effort from Lisandro Semedo’s pass was ruled out correctly following a VAR review.
The result is a hard one for Atromitos to take, as the Peristeri club are now down in ninth place, five points adrift of OFI with just two more matches to play.
