Greeks Abroad Review: Voilis scores again in Portugal

In the second tier of Portuguese football, teenage striker Alexandros Voilis registered his second marker for Casa Pia since joining on loan from Olympiacos, hitting the target in a narrow defeat to Oliveirense. Elsewhere, Stavros Tsoukalas scored in Hungary, as Kisvarda played to a 2-2 home draw with DVTK. Greek goalkeeper Giannis Anestis also notably contributed with an assist for IFK Goteborg in a Swedish Cup victory over Vasteras.

MAIN MEN (Comprised of current/former senior national team players):

Sokratis Papastathopoulos (Arsenal/English Premier League): Substituted in stoppage time of the 1-0 UEFA Europa League win at Olympiacos, but he was left on the bench during a 3-2 victory against Everton at the weekend.

Jose Cholevas (Watford/English Premier League): Missed a 3-0 loss at Manchester United.

Panagiotis Retsos (Sheffield United/English Premier League): Sat on the bench as Sheffield United were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton at home.

Sebastian Vasiliadis (Paderborn/German Bundesliga): Played 90 minutes of a narrow 3-2 defeat at Bayern Munich.

Konstantinos Stafylidis (Hoffenheim/German Bundesliga): Not included in the squad to play in a 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach on the road.

Stefanos Kapino (Werder Bremen/German Bundesliga): Watched a 2-0 home loss to Borussia Dortmund from the comfort of the substitutes’ bench.

Vasilis Lampropoulos (Bochum/German Bundesliga 2): Not in the squad for a 2-1 victory at Dynamo Dresden.

Kostas Manolas (Napoli/Serie A): Played the full 90 minutes against Brescia as Napoli claimed a 2-1 triumph.

Orestis Karnezis (Napoli/Serie A): Kept on the bench in the same game.

Panagiotis Tachtsidis (Lecce/Serie A): Used as a substitute in the 66th minute of a heavy 4-0 defeat to AS Roma in the Italian capital.

Charalampos Lykogiannis (Cagliari/Serie A): Cagliari did not play this week.

Odisseas Vlachodimos (Benfica/Portuguese Primeira Liga): Conceded twice in a 2-1 UEFA Champions League defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine, before gaining a clean sheet as Benfica beat Gil Vicente 0-1 in the domestic league.

Andreas Samaris (Benfica/Portuguese Primeira Liga): Emerged as a substitute in the final minute of the match against Shakhtar, and he then played 90 minutes at the weekend.

Dimitris Siovas (Leganes/La Liga): Received a yellow card while playing the entire game against Celta Vigo. Leganes lost 1-0.

Leonardo Koutris (Mallorca/La Liga): Substituted in the 31st minute of a thrilling 3-3 draw at Real Betis.

Efthymis Koulouris (Toulouse/Ligue 1): Kept on the bench with Lille beating Toulouse 3-0.

Anastasios Donis (Reims/Ligue 1): Used as a substitute in the 64th minute of the 1-1 draw at St. Etienne.

Konstantinos Mitroglou (PSV Eindhoven/Eredivisie): An unused substitute in a 2-1 victory against Vitesse on the road.

Marios Vrousai (Willem II/Eredivisie): Remained on the bench in a 4-2 setback to Emmen.

Vangelis Pavlidis (Willem II/Eredivisie): Played the full 90 minutes of the same match.

Tasos Bakasetas (Alanyaspor/Turkish Super Lig): Played the entirety of a 1-0 defeat at Sivasspor.

Manolis Siopis (Alanyaspor/Turkish Super Lig): Also played the full 90 minutes with Alanyaspor coming up short against Sivasspor away from home.

Georgios Tzavellas (Alanyaspor/Turkish Super Lig): Kept on the bench in the same game.

Carlos Zeca (Copenhagen/Danish Superliga): Midweek, he played the full 90 minutes of a 1-1 Europa League draw against Celtic in Denmark, before playing the entirety of the 1-1 tie with SIF in the national championship.

Panagiotis Kone (Western United/A-League): Substituted in the 30th minute of a 2-0 defeat at Wellington Phoenix.

GERMANY

Konstantinos Mavropanos (Nuremberg/German Bundesliga 2): Started the match against Darmstadt 98 and was substituted in the 13th minute of play.

Dimitris Diamantakos (St. Pauli/German Bundesliga 2): Received a booking while playing 87 minutes of the 2-0 derby triumph at Hamburg.

Ioannis Gelios (Holstein Kiel/German Bundesliga 2): Conceded one goal as Heidenheim defeated his team 1-0.

Stelios Kokovas (Bochum/German Bundesliga 2): Not included in the squad as Bochum defeated Dynamo Dresden 2-1 away from home.

Panagiotis Vlachodimos (Grossaspach/3. Liga): Played 90 minutes of a 1-0 away loss at Viktoria Cologne.

NETHERLANDS

Konstantinos Lamprou (Vitesse/Eredivisie): Kept on the bench with Vitesse losing 2-1 to PSV Eindhoven.

Giorgos Strezos (Willem II/Eredivisie): Watched his club lose 4-2 against Emmen from the comfort of the substitutes’ bench.

Lazaros Rota (Fortuna Sittard/Eredivisie): Played 90 minutes of a 2-1 setback against Feyenoord on the road.

Giannis Mystakidis (De Graafschap/Eerste Divisie): Remained an unused substitute in a 2-1 away triumph at Dordrecht.

James Efmorfidis (Almere City/Eerste Divisie): Sat on the bench with Almere City losing 1-0 at NAC Breda.

BELGIUM

Stergos Marinos (Charleroi/Jupiler League): Missed a 1-0 loss at Club Brugge.

Nikos Kenourgios (Zulte Waregem/Jupiler League): For the first time in seven months, the young Greek defender was included in the starting line-up. Played the full match with Zulte Waregem drawing 1-1 at Oostende.

Dimitris Chatziisais (Cercle Brugge/Jupiler League): Played 90 minutes of a 1-0 win at Mouscron.

ITALY

Giorgos Kyriakopoulos (Sassuolo/Serie A): Sassuolo did not play this week.

Dimitris Nikolaou (Empoli/Serie B): Remained on the bench as Empoli managed to beat Perugia 1-0 on the road.

POLAND

Konstantinos Triantafyllopoulos (Pogon/Ekstraklasa): Received a yellow card while playing 90 minutes of a 0-0 draw at Lodz.

Michalis Manias (Pogon/Ekstraklasa): Started the same game and was later replaced in the 70th minute of play.

DENMARK

Theofanis Mavrommatis (SonderjyskE/Danish Superliga): Sat on the bench with his club losing 2-1 to Nordsjaelland.

PORTUGAL

Alexandros Voilis (Casa Pia/Liga Pro): The 19-year-old forward scored and received a booking while playing 90 minutes of a 2-1 defeat at Oliveirense.

TURKEY

Stelios Kitsiou (Ankaragucu/Turkish Super Lig): Played the entirety of a 1-0 defeat at Genclerbirligi.

Andreas Tatos (Altay/Turkish First League): Replaced in the 87th minute of a 3-1 home triumph over Adanaspor.

SCOTLAND

Marios Ogboe (Hamilton/Scottish Premiership): Played 90 minutes as Hamilton drew 0-0 with Motherwell.

SPAIN

Nikos Vergos (Hercules/Segunda B): Used as a substitute in the 0-0 tie with Barcelona B.

SWITZERLAND

Konstantinos Dimitriou (FC Wil/Swiss Challenge League): On loan from Basel, the defender did not participate in a 2-0 defeat to Chiasso.

BULGARIA

Antonis Stergiakis (Slavia Sofia/Parva Liga): The young goalkeeper stayed on the bench with Slavia Sofia beating Dunav Ruse 3-1 at home.

Giannis Kargas (Levski Sofia/Parva Liga): Received a yellow card while playing 90 minutes of a 2-2 draw at Cherno More.

Dimitris Chantakias (Cherno More/Parva Liga): Booked by the referee and played the full match against Levski in Sofia.

HUNGARY

Theodoros Berios (Kisvarda/OTP Bank Liga): Kept on the bench in a 2-2 draw with DVTK.

Stavros Tsoukalas (Kisvarda/OTP Bank Liga): Scored and played 90 minutes as the game with DVTK ended level.

SLOVAKIA

Dimitris Konstantinidis (Michalovce/Fortuna Liga): Played 90 minutes of a 1-0 win against Nitra at home.

Christos Kountouriotis (Michalovce/Fortuna Liga): Used as a substitute in the 67th minute of the same match.

Giorgos Neofytidis (Michalovce/Fortuna Liga): Emerged from the bench in the 90th minute against Nitra.

Kyriakos Savvidis (Michalovce/Fortuna Liga): Received two yellow cards and was sent off in the home victory.

Dimitris Popovits (Michalovce/Fortuna Liga): Not included in the squad this week.

Fanis Tzandaris (Spartak Trnava/Fortuna Liga): Started the game against Senica on the road and was later substituted in the 61st minute. His club suffered a 2-0 defeat.

SWEDEN

Giannis Anestis (IFK Goteborg/Allsvenskan): Didn’t concede any goals and even dished out an assist as Goteborg defeated Vasteras 2-0 in the Swedish Cup.

AUSTRIA

Taxiarchis Fountas (Rapid Vienna/Austrian Bundesliga): Used as a substitute in the 63rd minute of a 2-2 draw against Hartberg on the road.

Tasos Avlonitis (Sturm Graz/Austrian Bundesliga): Did not participate in the game with Admira away from home. Sturm Graz emerged victorious 2-0.

ISRAEL

Andreas Gianniotis (Maccabi Tel Aviv/Israeli Premier League): Remained on the bench in a 3-0 victory against Hapoel Tel Aviv.

SAUDI ARABIA

Savvas Gentsoglou (Al Adalah/Saudi Professional League): Received a yellow card while playing the entire game against Abha. The match ended level at 2-2.

ROMANIA

Aris Soiledis (FCSB/Liga 1): Played 90 minutes of a 1-1 draw with Chindia Targoviste in Bucharest.

AZERBAIJAN

Vangelis Platellas (Neftchi Baku/Premier League): Not involved in a 2-0 win at Gabala.

Anastasios Papazoglou (Zira/Premier League): Missed the emphatic 4-0 defeat against Kesla on the road.
