Katsikaris leaves Jazz for Gran Canaria
Fotis Katsikaris has been appointed the new head coach of the Gran Canaria.

Fotis Katsikaris resigned from his coaching staff position at the Utah Jazz and has returned to Europe to continue his coaching career. The 52-year-old coach signed a two-year deal with Gran Canaria of the Spanish ACB League on Wednesday.

Katsikaris is a well known name in Spanish basketball having previously coached Valencia Basket (2006-2008), Bilbao Basket (2010-2013), Murcia (2015-2016, 2017), and Tenerife (2017-2018). He enjoyed the most success in Spain with Bilbao, helping the club reach the 2011 ACB League finals and earn a place in the EuroLeague. In Europe’s premier club competition, Katsikaris led Bilbao to the quarter-finals where they lost out to CSKA Moscow.
Katsikaris has coached many clubs in his career inclduding AEK Athens (assistant 1998–2003, 2003-2005 head coach), Dynamo St. Petersburg (2005–2006), Valencia Basket (2006-2008), Aris Thessaloniki (2009–2010), Bilbao Basket (2010–2013), Murcia (2015–2016, 2017), Lokomotiv Kuban (2016–2017), Hapoel Jerusalem (2017), Iberostar Tenerife (2017–2018), and as an assistant at the Utah Jazz. He became the first Greek coach to work in the NBA.
Katsikaris has also coached at the international level from 2012-2013 for Russia and from 2014-2016 with Greece. He coached Greece at EuroBasket 2015 where the Ethniki lost to eventually champions Spain in the quarter-finals. Greece claimed fifth place at EuroBasket 2015.
