Lazaros second to become Greek champion with AEK, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos

Lazaros Christodoulopoulos, who rarely featured this season in Piraeus, has become the second player in history to win the domestic championship with AEK, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos during his career.

More history has been made by Christodoulopoulos. Previously, the 33-year-old winger became the first player to represent AEK, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and PAOK, scoring at least one goal for all of those four particular clubs. Now, after Olympiacos formalised their 45th league title with a victory against OFI on Wednesday, he is the second player to win the domestic championship with AEK, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. Tasos Mitropoulos was the first to achieve this.

Unfortunately for Christodoulopoulos, injuries have prevented him from displaying his capabilities in Piraeus since transferring to Olympiacos from AEK in 2018, with rumours heavily suggesting that he will leave the Erythrolefki this summer. Nevertheless, despite the fact that he only participated in five 2019/2020 Super League games, he will rightly be awarded with a medal at the trophy presentation. Christodoulopoulos is currently on the sidelines after picking up another injury in a training session last month.

FIRST TITLE WITH PANATHINAIKOS

Christodoulopoulos became a Greek champion for the first time in the 2009/2010 season with Panathinaikos. In truth, he was mainly used as an impact substitute by the coaching staff, only netting one goal and dishing out two assists as Panathinaikos claimed the national crown by finishing six points ahead of nearest challengers Olympiacos.

AEK HEROICS

The experienced Greek international made a huge contribution to AEK’s triumph in the 2017/2018 campaign. In wonderful form throughout the season, Christodoulopoulos regularly took a leading role for the Enosi, standing out with his energy on the right flank and spectacular goals. Christodoulopoulos registered seven goals and one assist in the Super League with AEK claiming their maiden championship since 1994.

THIRD CHAMPIONSHIP IN PIRAEUS

As already mentioned, injury issues didn’t allow Christodoulopoulos to show his talent with Olympiacos, with the player restricted to a handful of appearances across all competitions. Christodoulopoulos made his 2019/2020 Super League season debut in late December against Volos NFC on the road, subsequently competing in the next three matches with Panathinaikos, Lamia and Aris. He seemingly played his last game for Olympiacos on February 15 against Panionios at the Karaiskakis Stadium.
