For too long the playing surface of a pitch at the stadium of a Greek Super League club has resembled nothing short of a ‘cow paddock,’ such has been the poor conditions. This was often a criticism levelled across the board to practically every club - PAS Giannina for instance, were notoriously known for their “farm” during their top flight stay.

However, times have changed, as the 13 grounds used to host Greek Super League matches now look like carpet instead. This development came after instructions given by the company STRI prior to the new season beginning. All pitches were inspected from the 17th of August until the 24th of August and instructions were handed out to each club on the 9th of September. Following this, improvements were made - one just has to look at the vast improvement at OAKA to see the level of enhancement.

According to the President of the Championship, Minas Lysandrou, this company has been hired for the last three years but the “mechanism did not work.” It has now been said that a decision by the governing body that any stadium is deemed ineligible to host a match, will be instantly closed to allow for the necessary work to take place in order to fix the issues.

OAKA, AEL FC Arena and Kleanthis Vikelidis in particular have undergone a massive transformation and have visibly improved to be among the best in the country.
