Olympiacos demolish Hannover to secure place in Final-8

Olympiacos won their fifth consecutive LEN Champions League game, as they destroyed Waspo Hannover 17-7 to mathematically clinch their spot in the Final-8.

After previously being held to a 9-9 draw when the two teams last faced each other in Germany back in November, today’s game could not have been more different. The Erythrolefki got off to an incredible start and never looked back, going up 6-0 after the first period of play. They then extended this lead to 10-2 by halftime.
After the third period, Olympiacos found themselves up 12-5. A strong finish in the fourth period saw the Erythrolefki win by a score of 17-7 in the end.
Leading Olympiacos’ offense were Greek internationals Konstantinos Genidounias and Alexandros Gounas, each with five goals on the day. Ioannis Fountoulis and Pablo Obradovic were also key offensive contributors, scoring two goals each.
Thanks to this result, Olympiacos have now moved into a tie for second place (out of eight teams) in Group B with BPM Sport Management and mathematically clinched a spot in the Final-8. Coincidentally, the two will face each other in the next matchday on May 15 in Greece, which will also be the last group stage game of the season for both clubs. BPM Sport Management won their previous meeting 7-6 in Italy back in October.
