Olympiacos to face Wolves in Last 16 of Europa League


Olympiacos have been drawn against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Last 16 of the 2019/2020 UEFA Europa League.

On Friday afternoon, the draw for the Round of 16 of the Europa League took place in Nyon, Switzerland, with Olympiacos pitted against Wolves:

The first leg is scheduled for Thursday 12 March at the Karaiskakis Stadium, with the second leg set to be played on Thursday 19 March in Wolverhampton. Kick-off times are split between 18:55 CET and 21:00 CET, as they were in the group stage and Round of 32.

In the Round of 32, Olympiacos dramatically defeated Arsenal on the away goals rule, earning a thrilling 2-1 triumph in extra time on the road with Pape Abou Cisse and Youssef El Arabi scoring the two decisive markers. Olympiacos had initially lost the first leg 1-0 in Piraeus.

Olympiacos began their European campaign in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, subsequently defeating Viktoria Plzen, Basaksehir and Krasnodar on their way to the group stage. The Greeks ended up finishing in third place of Group B in the Champions League ahead of Red Star Belgrade and behind Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur.

Wolves, for their part, eased past Espanyol 6-3 on aggregate in the Last 32. The English outfit, coached by Nuno Espirito Santo, defeated Crusaders, Pyunik and Torino in the qualifying stages of the Europa League, before progressing in second place of Group K against Braga, Slovan Bratislava and Besiktas. Wolves currently occupy eighth place of the Premier League with 39 points from 27 games.

Daniel Podence, one of many Portuguese players on the books of Wolves, transferred to the club from Olympiacos in the winter.
