The Erythrolefki took the first two sets by the same score (25-21), and it seemed that they would earn a comfortable win over their arch-rivals. However, Panathinaikos then raced out to a 17-12 lead themselves in the third set. The hosts leveled the score at 22-22, but Panathinaikos ultimately won the set 25-23.

The fourth set was also very tight, and Olympiacos even held a match point up 24-23. Nevertheless, the visitors won three consecutive points to take it 26-24 and level the score at 2-2 overall. Panathinaikos then prevailed 15-10 in the fifth set to defeat Olympiacos for the first time in five years.

Panathinaikos will now look to win their first League Cup title in club history, as they host Olympiacos in the second leg on Wednesday. On the other hand, Olympiacos will be seeking their sixth consecutive League Cup title.
