Rain and heavy winds have battered the Aegean and Attica over the past 48 hours thanks to the medicane “Zorba”, but the weather phenomenon didn’t stop Panathinaikos from making it five wins in five with a solid, come-from-behind win.

Giorgos Donis’ youthful team fell behind after 23 minutes when visiting striker Sandi Krizman outmuscled Theofanis Mavromatis to prod the ball past Sokratis Dioudis.

The home side did not panic, however, and the excellent Ousmane Coulibaly crossed for Tasos Chatzigiovannis to score with a diving header to level matters two minutes before half-time.

Both sides seemed capable of winning the match as an entertaining second half unfolded, but the Greens threatened more dangerously. And it came as no surprise when the hosts went 2-1 up a minute before the hour mark.

Coulibaly was again the architect, crossing perfectly for former Manchester United striker Federico Macheda to score from close range and chalk up his first strike for the club.

Meanwhile in Larissa, Gianluca Festa’s Vissini side claimed their second win of the season in a 1-0 home win over Panaitolikos thanks to Radomir Milosavljević’s solitary goal.

The 26-year-old Serbian midfielder scored after just three minutes, beating visiting goalkeeper Dimitris Kyriakidis with a deflected strike from the edge of the Panaitolikos custodian’s penalty area.

There were chances for both teams but no goals were added as the home side hung on for the second three point haul in five matches, a result which saw them move up to the mid-table positions with six points.

Panaitolikos, who are coached by former Greece defender Traianos Dellas, are 10 with five points from their opening five matches of the fledgling SuperLeague.
